February 11, 2012
Gosh, I can't believe it's been about a month since I updated this part of the site! Time is FLYING. We are currently working on our service learning project with recycled art. Yesterday we took a look at some pictures from the Heidelberg Project, which is what inspired me to do this project with the children. We split into 5 groups and each group will be deciding what to make from the materials we have collected. Over the next few Fridays the children will be creating their projects. On Tuesday, March 13, we will head over to Cook Valley to deliver our projects to the seniors who live there and share cookies and punch as we present our projects. I will include some pictures here on the site of our "work in progress" (faces of the kiddos hidden). So be sure to check out our photo gallery! January 14, 2012 What a weird winter we've been having so far! Remember there is no school on Monday, January 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will also be having a half day of school on Friday, January 20th. Students will eat lunch at school and then be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon is for the teachers to do report cards. Monday, January 23 is the official start of the 2nd half of the year (time is flying!). We will be MAP testing starting the week of the 23rd. Look for information to come home in Monday folders about our specific test days. It is important that all students are at school on those days so they don't have to make them up! January 1, 2012 Happy New Year friends! Where did our vacation go? It seems like it just flew by...and where in the world has the snow been? Seriously. I hope you are all rested up because we will be hitting the ground running on Tuesday. Get those brains ready little friends, we're going to be in for a "bumpy ride" :D December 23, 2011 Just wanted to take a moment and wish you all a very happy holiday and an amazing new year! Don't forget to read, read, read over break! Your Book-It reading logs are due on January 3, 2012! December 16, 2011 We had an incredible and crazy week this week! I'm sure the children are tired because they certainly wore me out! :) Thanks SO much for all of the parents who donated candy for our gingerbread houses. We had so much candy left and I'm sure the students will be buzzing around for a few hours tonight (sorry!). Thank you SO SO much for the presents that you sent in for me. I was not expecting anything at all and am humbled that you would think of me. I truly enjoy working with your children and their smiles, cards and little pictures are always appreciated. Thank you for sharing your children with me. I am one lucky lady. I wish you and your families the happiest of holidays. See you in 2012! December 9, 2011 What a great time we had today with our friends from Ada Vista! They read books in Spanish to the 2nd graders, they got to decorate and eat cookies with their new friends and each 2nd grader received a new scarf that the Ada Vista family made for us. How fun! We also spent some time today making some cute reindeer for our friends at Fox Voice who are sponsoring our field trip on Tuesday. Lastly, some of our students were featured in the GRPS weekly highlights this week! They have been working with Mrs. Harman's ASD classroom and there was a picture in the weekly highlights featuring them playing "Santa Says" with Mrs. Harman's class. If your child participates with that group, I sent a copy of the page from that article home with them. December 1, 2011 Check out the Service Learning page! I've included information about our service learning projects, including a link to our Pay it Forward challenge where you can view all of the schools who entered and vote for your favorite!! November 27, 2011 I'm super excited about a new math program I found online. It is called Xtra Math. The students will be using this program at school but you can also use it at home if you'd like. You'll find the login link under "Students". Students will need to know their code and PIN to be able to access their personalized page. November 26, 2011 Do you like our new look? :) I was having some formatting issues with the Blogger format. When the students and I were working with the website, things would be crooked or missing and that just wasn't going to work for me anymore. So I took advantage of our break from school and changed things a bit. The biggest change is that none of the links for the students are on the front page anymore. They are ALL available under the "Students" tab along the top. Click on that button and all of the links will be there! All of the curriculum links and information will be under the "Our Classroom" tab. Addtionally, the spelling lists for Unit 3 should be active on Spelling City by Sunday, November 27. If you try to use the site and the lists aren't there, please send me a note. I hope you had a pleasant Thanksgiving and are enjoying your break from the craziness of school :) |
